It was announced on [August 18], [1955] and was first presented on [December 1], [1955]. It was styled by [Sixten Sason] and had a longitudinally-mounted three-cylinder 748 cc [Saab two-stroke] engine giving 33 hp (25 kW). The [gearbox] had three gears, the first unsynchronised. In order to overcome the problems of oil starvation on overrun (engine braking) for the two-stroke engine, a [freewheel] device was fitted. In [1957], two-point [seatbelt]s were introduced as an option. The 93 was the first Saab to be exported from Sweden, with most exports going to the [United States]. A [Saxomat] [clutch] and a [cabrio coach] (large cloth sunroof) were available as options. On [September 2], [1957] the 93B was introduced. The original two-piece [windshield] was also replaced with a one-piece windshield. In [1957], [Erik Carlsson] finished 1st in the [Finland Rally] in a Saab 93, in [1959] he was 1st in the [Swedish Rally], also in a Saab 93. In late [1959] the 93F was introduced, featuring front-hinged doors from the [Saab GT750] and the [Saab 95]. [1960] was the last year of production for the 93. The 93 was replaced by the [Saab 96], although the two models were sold side-by-side for the earlier part of the year. A total of 52,731 Saab 93s were made. I checked all the usual places without any success, so decided to phone local saab branch who tells me its under glove box nsf, they openly admitted to not changing them because it involved de-gassing the air con and removing the glove box and removing the pipes from around the matrix which i did, guess what, NO pollen filter there. Any ideas where? Any help would be appreciatedA) Can't believe they told you that! Take off both windscreen wipers, remove the scuttle trim(you have to disconnect the washer tube on the nearside)then remove the black plastic water tray. You will then see the pollen filter! Takes about 10 mins to change.I have a 2003 Saab 93, and the bass went out for no reason. Ideas?Q) I don't blast my music, but I did notice a "crackling" noise a day or so before the bass stopped. Any ideas regarding this matter? I would hate to have to go to SAAB and be charged a fortune for labor.A) Very lightly vacuum the speakers inside the grille's with a soft brush attachment if you have one. This will remove any dust that may have accumulated over time. If that does not work, detach the contacts at the speakers and lightly clean them with some wire wool or better still an old tooth brush and some WD40 to clean the connectors. Wipe dry and reconnect, if that does not work then it may be the rubber woofers that have failed. You will probably need to replace the speakers or check with an independent in car hi-fi specialist first.I am thinking of getting a Saab 93 (2002 cabriolet). Has anyone got one and had any problems?Q) I would be grateful for any advice and comments as I have never had a Saab before.A) They aren't very rigid with the top down and they seem to shake and rattle at around 50mph. The ride/handling isn't quite up with the best in the class. I took my W reg SAAB 93 Conv. to a garage for MOT. They found a minor crack in Brake cylinder which I could not see myself. As a result my car failed for MOT. They said it will cost about £800 to repair. They advised me to take the car to the SAAB garage. I later found out this MOT garage is a part of SAAB and owned by SAAB. Be very careful when you take your SAAB to MOT. They would spend a long to time and do their best to find fault with your car and fail for MOT so that they can generate work for themselves.Saab 93 Convertible. Temp gauge keeps going to low when driving?Q) I had a bad service done a while ago and the mechanic didn't put coolant in the rad and the car ran for a couple of weeks before I really noticed and had it drained and re-filled properly. Since then when I'm driving the temperature gauge goes to low and the 'check engine' warning light comes on. If the car is idling the temp gauge goes to normal, but within a couple of miles the gauge goes low again. The car has been serviced since but there's been no change. It only happens if the outside temp is 5 or less and as I live in Scotland that's quite a lot! Any ideas?A) The thermostat is either stuck open or missing. At idle the engine warms up, when you drive more cold air is forced through the radiator and around the engine making it cooler. The thermostat is there to close down and restrict the coolant circulation to make the engine run warmer. First, the system is a "marriage / divorce" system that will require you to take the car to a shop / dealer that can plug into the car and divorce the system from the vehicle. If you just simply yank the system out it will lock up, anit-theft, and render your system junk. It requires a removal tool to pull the system. Any stereo shop will have one and should charge you little or nothing to pull it out for you. Good Luck.Do cars have sensors that shut off the a/c to preserve the gas on a low tank? The engine wasn't cold or anything, this car wasn't one that just sat around. The car had an empty gas tank, so I went to fill it up. Help!A) Hello, I have a 2000 Saab Conv 9-3, and I am going thru the same thing, okay, it can be one of two things, you could just be low on hydraulic fluid and just need to put some in the pump -or- if it's a problem like mine,(GOD forbid) you'll probably need to look @ your entire convertible system located in the back seat of your car. In my situation, my hose were burst (a very unusual thing) and I have to replace 4 of them, I called around to the dealer and other places to see how much each hose would and the cheapest i heard was $188 per hose! I almost had a heart attack! But I put a question on this site and someone responded and gave me a number to a Saab place with cheap parts!
